What's new

Private roaming is now available as a beta for home users. Your private and home teams can expose their charge points to external roaming partners without listing them on public maps.

Until now, roaming was only available to professional teams. With private roaming, a private team can enable it themselves, or an operator can enable it on their behalf.

Here is how it works:

  • A private charge point can be enabled for roaming and authorized with RFID cards, for example cards issued by an employer.

  • The charge point stays hidden from maps. When its details are shared with roaming networks, the address is anonymized: the street, city and postal code are replaced with generic values, and the coordinates do not point to the real location.

  • A roaming price group sets the reimbursement rate. Operators can also assign a different price group to each roaming partner agreement used for private roaming. Agreements without a specific price group keep using the roaming price group.

  • The setup is compatible with Hubject and other OCPI networks.

Why it matters

In a household with more than one income, only one person could get employer reimbursement for home charging if the household had just one charge point. Individuals also had no way to get home charging reimbursed through a company-sponsored tank card. Private roaming makes multiple reimbursements possible on a single private charge point, without sacrificing privacy.

Who it's for

Operators whose drivers charge at home and need employer reimbursement.

Good to know

  • When roaming is enabled on a private team's charge point, Hub shows a disclaimer. In some markets, such as Belgium and the Netherlands, private owners may not be allowed to make a profit from roaming.

  • Roaming for private teams is switched on at the operator level.
